I quite enjoyed this simple comedy, actually, despite all the negative energy surrounding it. Sure, it isn’t reinventing the comedic wheel or anything, but it has enough laughs throughout to keep me interested. Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. have a ton of chemistry together, making each interaction seem genuine and fresh. Some things aren’t developed particularly well, like the character played by Andy Garcia and the boring romance between Wayans and Nina Dobrev, but where it counts, Let’s Be Cops is succesful. Director Luke Greenfield, who was behind one of my all-time favorite coming-of-age movies The Girl Next Door, should get more work because his two mainstream comedies have surprised and delighted me.
