Not exactly the movie I was expecting, The Judge is just a run-of-the-mill family drama instead of the courtroom procedural that it has been painted to be. Robert Downey Jr. is, again, playing Robert Downey Jr. in this film, so there’s nothing much to report on his end, but the cast of characters around him range from adequate to quite good. Vincent D’Onofrio is quietly the best actor in this picture, emoting more with a look than Downey Jr. can do with a whole monologue. The Judge is just a painfully average movie, with less teeth than it thinks it has and leaning on well-worn tropes. This film seems destined for in-flight entertainment, eliciting a couple of shoulder shrugs from passengers as the credits roll.
